About us

The Silverstone Technology Cluster (STC) was founded to help companies in and around Silverstone make money, increase their profits and grow. We are not-for-profit, industry and technology agnostic and – through our members – we increase the value of the local economy

Brought into being back in 2017, the STC’s creation was the result of a call to action by a report* which identified our region (within an hour’s drive of Silverstone) as an integral part of the Oxford – Milton Keynes – Cambridge Super Cluster, and our membership has been going from strength to strength ever since.

From the seven original founding members, membership numbers now exceed 150 businesses, and our numerous, regular events take place all over the region. The STC is a real community and its members are now attracting interest not only locally and internationally but also from the likes of the UK government, Heathrow Airport, US DEVCOM, UKSA, and BAE Systems among others.

Our focus is on promotion of our members and their capabilities, support of those members wherever they find themselves and a thought leadership agenda which aims to help the motivated and ambitious business stretch its potential and exceed in its field.

The STC is specifically focused on the areas of:

Promotion

Promotion aims to raise the profile of STC members and their capabilities at a national and international level.

See the Promotion tab for more details.

Support

Support focuses on business growth and encouraging and helping businesses to scale up and lift themselves to the next level.

See the Support tab for more details.

Thought Leadership

For thought leadership, the STC has formed Special Interest Groups (SIGs) as a proven way to bring like-minded companies together to network, debate the latest developments in the industry and seek out new commercial opportunities.

See the Thought Leadership tab for more details.

Skills

For skills, the STC will be launching a new series of programmes to address the sector’s talent challenges.

See the Skills page for more details.

Bringing like-minded companies together and encouraging them to collaborate is very much at the heart of what the STC does, and as a not-for-profit organisation supported by founding members such as Barclays, Buckinghamshire Council, EMW Law, Grant Thornton, Hexagon, Silverstone Park and West Northamptonshire Council, it aims to deliver what its membership requires, without chasing any political or financial agendas.

Behind the scenes

In addition to the hard work of the STC team, we are also grateful for the support of our Board members, Industry Advisory Group and SIG Champions.

Board Members

The Silverstone Technology Cluster (STC) board governs the STC and is responsible for its strategic direction. The board consists of a representative from each of its founding members; two representatives from STC member companies (“technology” members only); and the STC CEO. The STC member representatives for the board will be selected from the current members of the Industry Advisory Group, who can put themselves forward for consideration.

Meet the Board.

Industry Advisory Group

The STC Industry Advisory Group (IAG) exists to advise the STC Board on strategic direction and to provide a powerful voice for the members, ensuring the STC continues to deliver programmes, events and initiatives that are of value to the membership. The group consists of up to six appointed representatives from STC member companies; both STC member board representatives; the board representative from Hexagon; and the STC CEO. If you are interested in joining the IAG, please email Pim van Baarsen.

Meet the IAG.

SIG Champions

To accelerate development across the board for its members and promote effective peer-to-peer discussion on the latest and greatest ideas, the STC created Special Interest Groups (SIGs).

Each of our SIGs is led by a group of Champions all of whom come from within the STC membership and have experience and insight into the topic at hand.

The Champions set the agenda for the group’s events (each group should aim to run 2-3 events per year), share their knowledge, and engage with the wider STC community.

Meet the SIG Champions.
