Battery manufacturing plays a vital role in the transition to cleaner energy sources and the electrification in various sectors. As the demand for batteries grows, so does the need for skilled professionals who can contribute to this vital industry.
The UK’s battery manufacturing industry is poised for growth, with Stephen Glifford, Chief Economist at Faraday Institution estimating the need for ten gigafactories by 2040, bringing an estimated 170,000 jobs to the automotive industry & a need for 100,000 battery technicians. Confirming that as we move toward a greener future, skilled battery engineers will play a pivotal role in shaping this transformative industry.
For the first time, we now have a designated Apprenticeship Standard at Level 3 , launched by the Institute for Apprenticeship in December 23. Currently, there is no provider in the UK offering this, however working closely with provider in the area, we are keen to understand the interest of businesses in the Midlands who either have a need now or see a future need to develop the next generation of skills Battery technicians.
In order to start the ball rolling, we are looking to gather some insight from our valued colleagues and members of the Silverstone Technology Cluster.
