The Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) participated in this year’s Growth & Innovation Conference and highlighted opportunities for members to help accelerate the industry’s sustainability credentials.
Dr Maria Nelson, ATI’s Head of Innovation & Sustainability, showcased the opportunities during her presentation at the STC’s Innovation & Growth Conference.
Maria said: “The conference was a fantastic opportunity to connect with companies in the STC and discuss opportunities for innovators in aerospace and adjacent sectors to contribute to the sustainability transformation of aerospace and aviation.”
The ATI creates the technology strategy for the UK aerospace sector and funds world-class research and development.
During her presentation, Maria focused on both the development and use of future fuels and how these can impact the design of aircraft.
She also highlighted how the ATI is able to help fund SMEs working on aerospace technology innovation.
Maria told the audience: “We are seeking innovators who are looking to the future of the aerospace sector. So if you are one of those and are driving that already or are interested do please come and find us.”
She added: “No doubt it’s a big challenge. It’s not going to happen on its own… and without us accelerating innovation and the adoption of technologies.
“It’s a huge opportunity for many of you, for the sector, for the country and the global community.
“There is technology development and there are technology opportunities.
“We need every one of you contributing your skills and business expertise to this, so please reach out and connect with us and others across the sector.
“We’d be really excited to speak with you and see what role you might be playing in that future transformation.”

Maria’s call followed Australian Greentech innovator Rux Energy’s similar appeal to the STC membership (hyperlink to Rux article please) to help it advance development in areas such as hydrogen energy (a possible future fuel in sustainable aviation fuels).
Earlier this year, the STC membership was also picked out for its innovation and problem solving in engineering and manufacturing by the UK Space Agency.
