Description:
Dumarey Flybrid used the high-level motorsport sector to develop its highly power dense flywheel energy storage systems. Nowadays, our flywheels are mostly used in heavy duty on- and off-highway applications where the flywheel is able to utilise its high-power density, high robustness and long life.
It will become more and more unacceptable to waste energy – no matter if this energy is provided by a fossil fuel, HVO or even from renewables.
Unfortunately, many generators on construction sites waste energy as they are typically sized for the peak dynamic load response. The power demands from equipment like cranes, hoists or large pumps are often very dynamic which traditionally require large generators. However, these peaks in load only occur from time to time.
This is where the Dumarey Flybrid comes in. Its PUNCH Power 200 product uses energy stored in a flywheel to respond very quickly & at high power rates to these dynamic load requests. As a result, the generator can now be sized for the steady state load. Typically, this results in being able to halve or even quarter the size of the generator. This not only achieves fuel savings of >50%, the downsized generator is also able to run at a more efficient operating point which reduces the maintenance requirements & improves reliability of the generator itself. Furthermore, reducing the size of the generator also significantly reduces the raw materials & energy used during the production of generators. All of this combined results in impressive sustainability credentials.
Depending on the base generator size, fuel savings of between 9,000l per year to >30,000l per year, per generator have been demonstrated. Per tower crane, this results in emission savings of up to 80 tonnes per year – the equivalent (per crane) of removing 50 passenger cars from our city centres.
