Italian company SCP becomes STC’s first overseas member

The Silverstone Technology Cluster has attracted its first overseas member – Italian rapid prototyping specialist SCP (Solutions Components Performance).

Its Sales Manager Fabrizio Barillari said he liked what he heard from STC CEO Pim van Baarsen encouraging collaboration between businesses at the recent Motor Valley Fest event in SCP’s home city of Modena.

STC members Silverstone Composites, NS85, Primo Engineering and Dynisma also attended the event which promotes collaboration and knowledge exchange between Italy’s and the UK’s motorsport industries.

Fabrizio commented: “What inspired us to get in touch and join the STC network was hearing how they would like to establish a bridge between the countries’ two motorsport valleys – here around Modena and also back in the UK, in the Silverstone region.

“We are used to working with people under our nose, but sometimes more interesting things are happening outside of our scope.

“It was inspiring to listen to Pim and others. We may be in competition as businesses, but it doesn’t mean to say we can’t complement one another.”

Pim enthused: “It’s fantastic to have companies like SCP joining as they see the value in collaborating with the companies in the Silverstone Technology Cluster network.

“They are keen to explore what expertise the UK companies can bring to them, whilst at the same time they have expertise to offer from their side, and we are always up for creating these sorts of links.

“With the online tools and platform that we offer, it is easier than ever for our members to connect even if they don’t attend events. We’re excited about SCP joining and look forward to working with them.”

The majority of of SCP’s work is in motorsport, including Formula 1, World Endurance Championship and MotoGP. It also specialises in composites, supplying parts in aerospace, automotive (niche hypercar projects), aviation, marine and medical devices.

Fabrizio continued: “We are deeply engrained in our motorsport valley in Italy – the UK is like a cousin we don’t talk to so why don’t we talk and see how we can learn, collaborate, exchange technologies and improve the breed.”
