Series production of the RML Short Wheelbase is now well underway, with Car 2 due for delivery to its new owner this month.
And while Car 1 was personally delivered by our CEO Michael Mallock to its new home in the US, via a guest appearance at California’s Monterey Car Week, Car 2’s owner decided to collect the car from RML’s HQ in Wellingborough, UK.
Nothing unusual about that, but it had quite a drive home: to Ibiza!
“That type of road trip is just what the Short Wheelbase has been designed for,” said Michael Mallock. “It’s almost 1,200 kilometres from our factory to the car’s new home, and while the car looks like an entrant from the 1960 Targa Florio, it’s as comfortable, convenient and fast to drive as any modern high-end GT from a large manufacturer.”
Specified in non-metallic Blue Scorro, with external chrome brightwork, the Ibiza-bound Short Wheelbase’s cabin was exquisitely trimmed in Vanilla Fudge leather, complemented by Oyster-coloured seat belts, and upper sections of the dashboard trimmed in Atlantic Blue leather. Subtly hinting at the Short Wheelbase’s composite body material, elements of carbon fibre were left exposed on the car’s scuttle panel, door frames and the underside of its bonnet.
Awareness of the Short Wheelbase was given another boost at the end of September when Car Zero – the pre-production publicity car – was on display at the exclusive Monaco Yacht Show at the Yacht Club de Monaco.
